Oom Yung Doe in the CommunityThe School of Oom Yung Doe in Pittsburgh participates in several community-oriented events during the year. Here are some of our events. Ocotber 2009Recently, a group of 29 students ranging in age from 29 to 82 completed a six-week course in which they learned the basics of Tai Chi and Qi Gong breathing through the Mt. Lebanon High School Continuing Education Program. The classes were taught by instructors from the School of Oom Yung Doe, a local martial arts school that specializes in teaching health-based martial arts. The instructors explained that through the practice of Tai Chi, a martial art form that incorporates movements coordinated with specific breathing techniques, an individual can increase his or her endurance and lung capacity which, in turn, leads to increased energy on a daily basis. By the end of the course, some of the students found that they were able to use the movements and breathing techniques as a way to relax during a stressful work day. Others commented that they were getting more restful sleep. In addition, several students expressed appreciation for the time and patience that the instructors from the School of Oom Yung Doe showed, while teaching the group of beginners, movements which they found to be not just beneficial to their health, but beautiful and precise as well. ![]() April 2009The School of Oom Yung Doe held a banquet for Instructors, Students, Family and Friends.
